Essex Rides
Here are a collection of just a few favorite Essex rides that I do fairly regularly. South Woodham is a short (16 mile) ride which has become a favorite for a quick bit of training, as it has reasonable climbs, and can be completed in less than an hour (ideal for a quick after work ride). Because I have ridden this route so many times, it has become my benchmark to determine my current fitness level (average speed of 17mph on this route is good).
Tiptree is a long route (50 miles) which I have ride probably twice a year. This route takes me past the famous Tiptree Jam factory, which has a nice tea room available for passing cyclists.
The Ingatestone route is a favorite weekend route. At 30 miles this route is a nice distance which can be covered at a reasonable pace, without taking up an entire morning. This route takes me along some very nice country lanes, with very pleasant views. Between Ingatestone and Billericay there is a ford in the road which generally provides some much appreciated upward spray of cold water on my way through. Sometimes (when it is most needed) the ford is dry, which can be very disappointing.
You can see this route with elevation, speed and time information at my Motion Based page.
